Studying online requires self-discipline and can be a challenge for some learners. Setting your own class time and sticking to a schedule to complete lessons may be challenging if you are used to being in an in-person classroom setting. However, with dedication and persistence, online study can be very convenient and rewarding, especially with the time saved from travelling to a physical location. Here are some useful tips to help you succeed in your studies.
Set a personal study goal.
When you start a course, try to stay focused on the goal you wish to accomplish and set a deadline to achieve it. You will benefit most from the content by reviewing your notes after the class or workshop, setting your own deadlines, and holding yourself accountable for staying on track and meeting those goals.
Stick to a schedule.
If possible, select a day or time when you are most likely to have time available to study and stick to that schedule for the duration of your course. By choosing and sticking to a study schedule, you become mentally prepared to tackle your studies whenever that time comes around. Additionally, having a routine increases your chances of completing the course(s).
Avoid distractions.
As much as possible, go to a quiet place, turn off the TV, and put down the phone when it’s time to study. Distractions can draw your attention away from the course content, and impede your ability to retain what you’ve learnt. Review the course materials as many times as you need to and use the quizzes and activities to test your knowledge to ensure that you are getting the full benefit of the course.
Ask for help if things don’t go as planned.
Life happens so it’s possible that with all the planning and preparation, you could still have some challenges studying online. The IWIN Learning Team is there to support you every step of the way and aims to respond to your emails within 24 hours. From time to time, you may also receive emails from IWIN with notices and reminders about your course(s). Take the time to read these messages carefully to see if they require any action on your part. If you run into obstacles during your study, such as an expired course or need to retake a quiz, reach out to the instruction manager through the course support page.
